MIRAZ HERITAGE 2026
What began as an idea by the Gilgit Wing of Yaran e Khair came together through the efforts of young people, community members, organizations, performers, volunteers, and local contributors who shared a common desire: to celebrate, share, and keep the rich heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan alive.
Held on 6 September 2026 in Gilgit, MIRAZ HERITAGE 2026 was an immersive cultural expo that brought together the region’s diverse languages, traditions, food, music, stories, crafts, and people under one roof.
The event was designed around different aspects of cultural heritage. The Language Lab introduced visitors to the languages spoken across Gilgit-Baltistan, while Miraz Attire showcased traditional clothing, accessories, and cultural styles. Miraz Taste brought together traditional foods and locally prepared delicacies, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the region through its flavours.
Through Miraz Stories, participants explored folklore, poetry, legends, and stories passed down through generations. The Heritage Gallery displayed traditional artifacts, handicrafts, photographs, and other cultural treasures, while Miraz Sounds brought heritage to life through traditional music, instruments, and cultural performances.
The Miraz Marketplace added another dimension to the event by creating space for local products, crafts, food, startups, and entrepreneurial initiatives. In this way, MIRAZ was not only about looking back at heritage, but also about recognizing the people and ideas carrying that heritage forward.
Throughout the day, the event was filled with conversations, performances, colours, food, stories, and meaningful participation from people of different backgrounds. The enthusiasm of participants and visitors turned MIRAZ from an idea into a shared community experience.
More importantly, MIRAZ HERITAGE 2026 created a space for people to engage with their culture rather than simply observe it. It brought heritage out of textbooks, photographs, and archives and into a living space where people could speak their languages, wear their traditional attire, share their food, tell their stories, listen to their music, and celebrate the traditions that connect them to their communities.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who participated, volunteered, performed, prepared stalls, contributed their time and skills, supported the event, and helped transform an idea into reality. The success of MIRAZ was made possible by the collective effort of everyone who believed that culture is something worth celebrating and sharing.
MIRAZ HERITAGE 2026 was a reminder that our heritage is not simply something we preserve for the future. It is something we live, practice, share, and pass on.
